Message:
Hello Everyone,

I wanted to install a cobol compiler to practise writing
programs at home. Its really difficult finding something for
mac os x.

Would anyone know of a good one that is free or cheap to
purchase?

You can try:
OpenCOBOL (www.opencobol.org)

or

TinyCOBOL (tiny-cobol.sourceforge.net)

Both packages will build from source on my Linux system. Both are excellent implementations, with many of the ANSI COBOL-80 enhancements functional. TinyCOBOL also implements some of the ANSI intrinsic functions, but also has more pre-requisites.
