Subject: Seeking compiler compatible with IBM z Series

Message:
I am in search of a cobol compiler with which I can compile and test my sources aimed to run under z/OS in a windows environment.

It is not necessay that I/O code is fully compatible, let alone emulated.

I know MFEEE, but the pricing is high, and the product is overfeatured for my needs. Aren't there any alternatives?

Thanks for any comments!

You can check ACUCORP www.acucorp.com.
They may have a compiler for Z/OS.

Message:
As I detailed yesterday, Accucorp has been bought
by MicroFocus so don't know if they have a free one. You mention Z-series;do you mean th Z series servers?
Yesterday someone said there is a personal compiler on MicroFocus site but don't know. It would be wise to check out the Z/OS site on IBM to see if they list compatible compilers. Frankly I did not know that Z/OS runs under windows since it is an operating system itself! MicroFocus has a compiler that runs under Windows which is DOS based (I have used that one myself) but it won't run under Windows VISTA 64bit architecture since it is a 16-bit compiler.

What Windows environment are you expecting to use?

RE: Seeking compiler compatible with IBM z Series

Message:
I guess I have to clarify my question:

My aim is to produce source code for use under z/OS, but during development I want to be able to compile and test the source without having access to a mainframe. Therefore, I need a compiler that runs under Windows, and also produces binaries that run under Windows.

After that, the source should compile under z/OS as well, without the necessity to adapt it first (I/O statements excluded).

So the Windows compiler should know and compile the Cobol dialect used by IBM under z/OS.

I do NOT intend to run z/OS under Windows or search for any VM emulation.
