 Subject: Cobol Initialize verb problem
Message:
Hi,
I stuck on a problem with INITIALIZE verb in Cobol.
The problem is:
Seems like like the initialize verb is initializing my structure with spaces, even it contains and numeric filds;
The structure is:
01 P-INIT-REC
03 P-REFERENCE PIC X(21).
03 P-SRC-TYPE PIC X(1).
03 P-SRC-ID PIC X(6).
03 P-AMT PIC S9(9)V9(2) COMP-3 .
03 TOTAL-AMT PIC S9(9)V9(2) COMP-3 .
03 NUMBER-RECS PIC S9(9) COMP .
03 NUMBER-SUCCESS PIC S9(9) COMP .
03 DATA PIC X(30).
03 PROCESS-IND PIC X(2).
After initializing P-INIT-REC, I get the following values into the amount fields:
INITIALIZE P-INIT-REC.
TOTAL-AMT=+20202020202
NUMBER-RECS=+538976288
NUMBER-SUCCESS=+538976288
Does anybody have any idea why is that happening???

What COBOL are you using ? This structure should work correctly on its elementary items with INITIALIZE. Only tables are not always supported.

Initialize P-INIT-REC replacing alphanumeric by spaces and numeric by 0.
