Subject: how to verify a file was received
Message: a file gets FTP'd to the mainframe each day from different agencies. Some times the files are late
When this happens, the job that uses them blows up. I could modify the program to check the dates on the file when it's read, but is there an easier way to modify JCL to not run the program if a file was not received that day? Thanks

| RE: how to verify a file was received
Message: There are a couple of ways round this, it is a long time since I used mainframe JCL but I think there is a JCL command to check if a file exists and then use the 'if' statement to execute the program or not. The other way is if the declarative section is used in the program for this file check the status to handle the condition (Return Code 35 on most systems). If the declarative is not used add the status parameter in the select statement for the file, check the status at file open and take the appropriate action.
