RE: PROBLEM TO START WITH KOBOL COMPILER

Message:
Hi,

I can try to explain what I do in order to create a program and compile it with Kobol

(1) create a new Workspace
menu "Project/New Workspace"
in the pop up window which appears : Workspace name=Hello worskace File name=Hello.Kob Workspace directory = c:\temp\Hello

(2) Create a new Program
menu "File/New"
in the pop up window I just provide the Program Name "Hello" and I validate

(3) in the editor Window, the Template program is shown under the name "untitled"

Just add two lines to make the Program "compilable" :
DISPLAY "HELLO"
STOP RUN.

(4) Save it using the "File/Save as..." menu as HELLO.COB in the c:\temp\Hello directory

(5) in the "Project" Tab in the left margin, right clic the Workspace name and select "Add Files to Folder" and select your new hello.cob program ; its name appears under the Workspace Name

(6) right clic the program name and select "Set Main File"

(7) Save the Project by "Project/Save" (sometimes it seems better to close it and reopen it, I don't know why !

(8)in the Project Tab, select the Workspace and successively :

- run "Build/Make Clean"
- run "Build/Generate Makefile"
- run "Build/make"

you get a Warning Message in red but you'll find a Hello.exe file in the Project directory

(9) open a CommandLine Window, go to the c:\temp\hello directory and enter "hello" ==> you'll see the message HELLO displayed

I just re-tested the whole process under Windows XP ; of course it might be different under Windows 7. You must know that KOBOL is not really supported anymore ...

I hope this Helps

P.S. si vous etes francais, comme votre adresse mail le laisse supposer, ca ne me gene pas de continuer la conversation en francais !

regards

Jean-Francois
