Subject: Issue with ^ symbol

Message:
Whenever a field is holding ^ symbol,incomplete
records are getting generated when extracting data
from indexed files into flat ascii files using a
COBOL program.Also when a field has garbage/junk
characters the records are getting offset from the
fixed length. Please explain this behavior and also
suggest the possible solutions.

Thanks!

RE: Issue with ^ symbol

Message:
It is not clear from where you are getting the data.
If you are creating a file out of this data then you need to filter out (edit) the field for the unwanted charaters and correct/rectify the errors and can feed again

RE: Issue with ^ symbol

Message:
Moorthy,

I was trying to extract data from ISAM files into Flat files through a COBOL program. Some of the fields in the file have this symbol when see through the animator but when seen in the extract file the subsequent field which come after this impacted field are lost and not seen in the extract field which is causing incomplete record when we are expected fixed length ones.
